From Where I Sit Day 9 – Clean Means Content

May 10, 2018

Ok, so it’s no secret that I often use cleaning as a procrastination tool. You know, that completely legit excuse of busy-ness to avoid business. But today, #fromwhereisit I’m knee deep in mess because I can’t concentrate while I have this nagging situation of a messy kitchen cupboard in front of me.

I generally have a reasonably ‘neat’ home – most things go away into their designated spots or are shoved into nooks and crannies for ‘sorting’ at a later date. I’m fine with this…until I’m not. At that point, that moment that I’ve moved beyond fine and into the volcanic realm of ‘she’s about to blow’, I become fixated on the ‘sorting’ and subsequent cleaning of scenario in question.

Today was one of those days. I am so fortunate to have the luxury of working from home. Well, it’s only a luxury if you’re disciplined enough to walk past the mess and into your concentration zone.

So, as the picture paints, I made a B-line for the home office via picking up clothes from the bathroom, getting receipts out of my purse for hubby, hanging a load of washing up and then I notice that there are a few drink bottles to put away. Here is the demise of my mission to work. The cupboard was already overflowing.

So, of course I couldn’t possibly start work before completely clearing, cleaning and reordering the kitchen cupboard, right?!

While the glamorous life of ‘working from home’ (think of that ideal image of sipping mocha’s in a trendy cafe as I toil away at my deadline) is a little removed from reality, I wouldn’t swap it for regular hours in a set location – at this stage! It’s not for everyone, especially schedule freaks, but I love deadlines as they form the parameters that I need to work within. Sometimes, it all just flows better for me if the kitchen cupboards are organised and the floors are clean!

Am I a weirdo or do other people get so distracted that they need to complete an inconsequential task before moving onto the real things on their to-do list???
